Tehran, Jul 26: At least five people were killed and 13 others injured when armed militants from the terrorist group Jaish al-Zolm stormed a courthouse in Zahedan, the capital of Iran’s Sistan and Balouchestan province, on Saturday morning.

According to Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the gunmen opened fire inside the provincial courthouse located on Azadi Street. The assailants also fired indiscriminately at civilians outside, causing injuries and damaging property.

Emergency response teams from Unit 115 and Khatam al-Anbiya Hospital rushed to the scene and provided urgent medical care to the injured. Zahedan University of Medical Sciences confirmed ongoing surgical procedures for several victims.

Three attackers were shot dead by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the operation to retake control and restore order. Law enforcement teams also evacuated visitors and staff from the building during the confrontation.

Security forces have cordoned off the area, and the public has been urged to avoid the vicinity and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media. Official casualty figures are yet to be confirmed, as investigations are still underway.

The assault comes just months after Iranian forces killed Jaish al-Zolm commander Vali Mohammad Shahbakhsh in the Korin district of Zahedan. He was reportedly behind several attacks in the restive province.

Authorities continue to pursue remaining elements of the group, which has a history of carrying out violent attacks in the region.
