New Delhi, Jul 22: An Air India flight arriving from Hong Kong experienced a fire in its auxiliary power unit (APU) shortly after landing at Delhi airport on Tuesday. The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew members are safe.
According to Air India, Flight AI 315 had just arrived from Hong Kong and was parked at the gate when the APU caught fire during disembarkation. The system’s automatic safety features immediately shut down the APU.
“Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an APU fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate. The APU was automatically shut down as per system design,” an airline spokesperson said.

The aircraft has been grounded for a detailed inspection, and India’s aviation regulator DGCA has been informed. While minor damage to the aircraft has been reported, all passengers disembarked safely.
The incident comes on the same day Air India announced the completion of precautionary checks on the fuel control switch (FCS) locking mechanisms of its Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft. These inspections were conducted following a DGCA safety directive issued after last month’s tragic Boeing Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed 260 lives.
The Air Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB) had earlier revealed that the Ahmedabad crash occurred due to an unexpected cut-off in fuel supply, which caused both engines to fail shortly after take-off.
