Kundapur: Two arrested for cow theft, accused linked to 35 cases across Karnataka

Kundapur, Jul 22: Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the theft of a cow in Bidkalkatte, reported in the early hours of July 19. The accused are reportedly linked to as many as 35 criminal cases across multiple districts in Karnataka.

The complainant, Jayaprakash Shetty (48), a resident of Hardalli Mandalli village, filed a police complaint after receiving a video on his mobile phone showing the theft in progress.

According to the footage, around 3:50 am on July 19, three masked individuals arrived in a Mahindra Scorpio-type vehicle from the Hunsemakki side. They stopped near the Bidkalkatte market area, where they spotted a cow sleeping by the roadside. The accused tied a rope around the cow’s neck, dragged it violently, and forcefully loaded it into their vehicle before fleeing in the direction of Shiriyar.

Based on the complaint, Kota Police registered a case. The investigation, led by Brahmavar circle inspector Gopikrishna and Kota police sub-inspector Raghavendra C, along with personnel Sridhar and Raghavendra, resulted in the arrest of the accused – Imran and Irshad. The Mahindra Scorpio used in the crime, bearing registration number KA-12-N-5122, was also seized.

Police sources revealed that Imran (31), son of Aboobakar and a resident near Amemar Masjid in Pudu village, Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, is a habitual offender. Including this case, he is reportedly involved in 35 criminal cases registered across Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Hassan districts, and Mangaluru city.
