Mangaluru, Jul 22: A fish container lorry driver found guilty of causing a fatal road accident has been sentenced to six months in jail and fined Rs 9,500 by the third JMFC court in Mangaluru. The verdict was pronounced by Judge Suresh.

The convicted driver, Mohammad Jaffar Saab (32), hails from Abuzar Colony in Bailkhundu, Uttara Kannada district.

The accident occurred on September 28, 2021, on national highway 66 between Nanthoor Circle and Pumpwell in Mangaluru. The fish-laden container lorry, while overtaking another vehicle, hit a two-wheeler. The pillion rider, Manas Ramanath Ugale (23), was run over by the rear wheels of the lorry and died on the spot.

An FIR had been registered at Kadri traffic east police station in connection with the incident.

Inspector Gopalakrishna Bhatt of the traffic station submitted the charge sheet to the court, stating that the accident was a result of the driver’s rash and negligent driving. Government prosecutor Geetha Rai examined witnesses and presented arguments leading to the conviction.

This could be new way to murder people, just pay money to lorry drivers and ask them to run over a person because as per Indian law this the lorry drivers will get maximum of 2years with fines for causing death in road. Here only 6 month jail for taking a life

He had fallen due to water filled pathhole and lorry driver caused his death. It's because of pathhole not negligence of the driver. No action against road authority.
