Mangaluru, Jul 22: The Rs 10 crore cheating case registered against Roshan Saldanha (43), a resident of Bollugudde, Bajal in Mangaluru, has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. Roshan, who is already under arrest in connection with a multi-crore nationwide fraud, was booked earlier at the CEN police station in connection with this case.
According to rules, any fraud involving Rs 10 crore or more can be handed over to CID. A request for CID probe into this particular case had already been submitted, and the department has now agreed to take up the investigation. The case pertains to a complaint filed by a businessman from Bihar who was allegedly cheated in a land transaction.
Other cases filed against Roshan at the CEN police station will continue to be investigated by the local police, stated city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy.
Meanwhile, a new complaint has been lodged with the police commissioner by a Hyderabad-based individual, claiming he was cheated of Rs 1 crore by Roshan. Based on this, another FIR has been registered at the CEN police station.
Including the case handed over to the CID, a total of two FIRs had previously been filed against Roshan in Mangaluru. After his recent arrest, new cases have surfaced, including cheating a businessman from Maharashtra of Rs 5 crore and another from Assam of Rs 20 crore. Additionally, a complaint has also been registered at Chitradurga town police station for allegedly cheating an Andhra-based businessman of Rs 40 lac.
As the investigation progresses, more of Roshan’s bank accounts have been traced, revealing transactions exceeding Rs 50 crore. Authorities are now scrutinising these accounts and identifying more victims of fraud. Police have urged anyone who has been duped by Roshan to file a complaint either in Mangaluru or at their respective jurisdictional police stations.
Commissioner Reddy informed that the police are preparing supporting documents to seek Roshan’s custody. A petition will be submitted to the court to take him into police custody on July 23 for further interrogation.
