Pernem, Jul 21: Dozens of residents gathered at the Tuem hospital building on Sunday, demanding its immediate operationalisation and affiliation with Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim. The meeting was convened by the Tuem Hospital Action Committee, which has set a January 26, 2026 deadline for the hospital to become functional.
Agitators also insisted that job opportunities at the hospital be given to local residents. They warned of intensifying protests if the State government fails to act on their demands.
The gathering saw participation from several political figures, including Advocate Amit Sawant, Congress leader Devendra Prabhudesai, AAP’s Advocate Prasad Shahapurkar, Goa Forward Party’s Deepak Kalangutkar, panch Bala alias Prashant Naik, and Tulshidas Raut of the Tuem Hospital Action Committee, among others.
Speakers at the event criticised the government for not handing over the completed building to the Health Department. The hospital, initiated during the tenure of former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, remains non-functional despite completion.
The committee urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also heads the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) responsible for building the hospital, to issue a clear assurance during the upcoming Assembly session regarding the hospital’s inauguration.
