From Dehradun to the Indian Revenue Service: Neha Nautiyal’s inspiring UPSC journey

Daijiworld Media Network – Dehradun

Dehradun, July 20: Cracking the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination while managing a full-time job is no small feat. Neha Nautiyal, a native of Dehradun, did just that — overcoming time constraints and mental stress to clear the exam in her second attempt in 2011, eventually joining the Indian Revenue Service (IRS).

Born and raised in Dehradun, Neha hails from a modest background. Her father worked in the postal department, and her mother was a homemaker. The youngest of two siblings, she attended Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dehradun and later pursued higher studies in Ajmer, Rajasthan. After completing her graduation, she returned to Dehradun to obtain a Master’s degree in Zoology.

Despite being an average student during her school years, Neha always aspired to serve the country through the civil services. Her first attempt at the UPSC exam in 2010 ended in disappointment, but it only strengthened her resolve. She balanced her preparation while working as an IT professional, often studying late into the night.

Like many aspirants, Neha faced mental fatigue and periods of self-doubt. To cope, she would take brief breaks — watching movies, reading novels, or travelling — before resuming her preparation with renewed focus.

Her perseverance bore fruit in 2011 when she secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 185. Though eligible for the Indian Police Service (IPS), Neha chose to join the IRS, fulfilling her long-standing dream.

Neha’s story is a testament to the power of determination, self-discipline, and resilience — qualities that continue to inspire countless UPSC aspirants across the country.
