Amman, Jul 16: A wave of condemnation swept across the Middle East on Tuesday as multiple Arab nations—including Jordan, Qatar, Iran, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia—voiced strong opposition to recent Israeli airstrikes targeting Syrian military convoys near the southern city of Sweida.

The strikes were ordered by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz, who claimed the offensive aimed to protect the Druze community in Syria, citing deep cultural and historical ties with Israel’s own Druze citizens.

However, the military action drew sharp criticism from regional powers, many of whom called the strikes a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and international law.

Jordan’s foreign ministry described the assault as a “flagrant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation.” Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Sufian Al-Qudah reiterated Amman’s solidarity with Syria, urging an immediate halt to the attacks and emphasizing that Syria’s stability is key to regional peace.

Qatar’s government echoed similar concerns. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, condemned the Israeli strikes as “blatant violations” of Syria’s sovereignty and the UN Charter. He emphasized the need for peaceful dialogue and civil unity within Syria.

Iran’s foreign ministry expressed alarm over the reported civilian casualties in the Suwayda region, accusing Israel of continuous aggression and illegal occupation of Syrian territories. Spokesman Esmail Baqaei blamed the inaction of the UN Security Council for emboldening Israel’s actions and labeled the situation a threat to wider regional peace.

Kuwait strongly denounced the airstrikes and called on the international community and UN Security Council to take urgent steps to halt Israeli violations. In a formal statement, Kuwait affirmed its unwavering support for Syria’s sovereignty and security.

Saudi Arabia also condemned the attacks, labeling them a breach of international norms and the 1974 disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel. The Kingdom urged the global community to stand with Syria against these continued assaults and safeguard regional security.

The unified stance from these nations reflects growing regional concern over what they perceive as Israel’s unchecked aggression in Syria—raising alarms about escalating tensions and the fragile balance of power in the Middle East.
