Kaup, Jul 16: Amid heavy rains and flooding in the region, Tahsildar Pratibha R personally visited a flood-affected family in Advekodi, Yermal village, Kaup taluk, and assured them of immediate relief measures.
The family of Taranath has been forced to wade through chest-deep floodwaters daily to meet their basic needs. Taranath’s children, Prajna and Prajwal, have to walk through the water carrying their school bags to reach college. “Our clothes get wet. Sometimes I have to attend classes in damp clothes or change them elsewhere before class. It is very difficult to protect our books and bring daily groceries home,” said Prajna, before the Tahsildar and pleading for a permanent solution.

Moved by their plight, Tahsildar Pratibha R entered the chest-deep water herself, walked to their isolated home, and assured the family of prompt action to resolve their suffering. “It is disheartening to see students compelled to wade or swim through such waters to reach college in today’s modern times, the issue is caused due to blockage and silt accumulation in the Kaminiriver. I Have directed the officials to clear the blockage immediately.” she stated.
The Kamini River, which flows from Padubidri towards the sea is blocked due to silt accumulation. The river’s poor flow leads to water logging in the fields of Advekodi, severely affecting residents. Tahsildar Pratibha R has directed the Minor Irrigation Department officials to immediately clean and desilt the Kamini River to provide relief to the affected areas.
She further stated that the Taluk administration is fully prepared to handle flood situations. Boats have been kept ready, and trained swimmer rescue teams are on standby. The Tahsildar office control room is operational 24/7 to assist the public. Citizens can call 0820-2551444 for any emergency help.
