Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh hosts workshop on govt schemes for minorities

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 14: The Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh organized a workshop on government facilities available to minorities. During the inauguration, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, emphasized the importance of Christians availing the government facilities, stating, "Christians should come forward to visit the offices to avail the facilities provided by our government. Sadly, we show little interest in this and then blame our community."

He further noted that unlike other minority communities, Christians are often unaware of government schemes. The state government of Karnataka is keen to provide financial assistance for education, health, business, and house construction, he added.

Godwin Pinto, Samudaya Abhirudhi convener of the Central Committee, highlighted the need for Catholic Sabha members to be aware of these schemes and disseminate information to beneficiaries. He requested Ivan D’Souza to advocate for reservation in government jobs and works for the community.

The event included the inauguration of a donation box for the golden jubilee building fund, with Ivan D’Souza contributing generously. He handed over the donation box key to Walter D’Souza, convenor of the Building Committee, and Denis D’Silva, joint convenor.

Nazir from the Minority Department; and Jagadish from the Karnataka Minority Development Corporation provided information on available facilities.

Santosh D’Souza welcomed the gathering and Wilma Monteiro proposed a vote of thanks.

The programme was well-coordinated, with Lawrence serving as the compere.
