Birmingham, Jul 7: A cheeky on-field exchange between Ravindra Jadeja and captain Shubman Gill has captured the internet’s imagination after India scripted a record 336-run victory against England in the second Test at Birmingham, levelling the five-match series 1-1.

Clips from the stump mic, which have become a regular source of entertainment this series, revealed Jadeja seemingly rejecting Gill’s fielding suggestion during a tense phase of England’s innings. As Gill tried to reposition the long-on fielder—likely to counter Ben Stokes—Jadeja stood firm.

"Jaddu bhai, usko bhi upar lelo yaar. Marne do ek aage badke (Bring him up too. Let him take a risk)," Gill said.

To this, Jadeja coolly responded, "Usko udhar kuch kaam nahi hai… pakadne wala toh chaiye (He’s useless there. We at least need a catcher if the ball goes that side)."

The light yet strategic exchange drew chuckles from fans online, showcasing the dynamic between India’s experienced and youthful players.

Meanwhile, India’s victory at Edgbaston was historic—it was their first-ever win at the venue in 19 attempts, and also their biggest away win in Test history.

Captain Gill starred with scores of 269 and 161, the most runs scored by an Indian captain in a single Test, but he was quick to give credit where it was due.

“The spell of Akash Deep gave us the belief we could win this match,” Gill said post-match. The pacer returned with match figures of 10/187, breaking Chetan Sharma’s long-standing record for the best Indian bowling performance in a Test in England.

India will now head to Lord’s for the third Test, beginning Thursday, July 10, with renewed momentum and confidence.
