Mangaluru, Jun 29: In a startling revelation during a routine inspection, officials recovered mobile phones and banned tobacco products from the premises of the District Jail located in Kodialbail here on Saturday.
The raid was carried out under the leadership of ACP Pratap Singh Thorat of the Central Sub-Division, in the wake of a recent violent incident reported within the prison premises. The surprise inspection aimed to tighten security and curb illegal activities within the jail compound.

During the operation, authorities seized one keypad mobile, two touchscreen smartphones, and two bundles of beedis. These items, deemed strictly prohibited within the prison, raise concerns over ongoing breaches in security protocols.
A case regarding the incident has been registered at Barke police station, and further investigation is underway to determine how the contraband made its way into the high-security facility and identify those responsible.
Sources suggest that more intensified checks may be expected in the coming days as part of a larger crackdown on prison smuggling activities.
