London, Jun 29: British tennis star Emma Raducanu has dismissed speculation about a romantic link with French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, saying the two are “just good friends.” The duo, who recently practiced together at Wimbledon during a sponsor event, are set to team up for the mixed doubles at the upcoming US Open.
“It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian, just getting some volley practice in ahead of New York,” Raducanu said, smiling when asked about the dating rumours. “I'm really happy to be playing with him. We had a good time.”
Alcaraz, a five-time Grand Slam winner, had revealed he requested to partner with Raducanu for the Flushing Meadows event.
While Alcaraz has been enjoying a rapid rise since his major breakthrough at the US Open in 2021, Raducanu, who also made headlines with her US Open win the same year, has faced struggles, including injuries. The 22-year-old has not progressed beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam since her historic win.
“Truthfully, I don’t expect much from myself this year,” Raducanu admitted ahead of Wimbledon. “I just want to go out there and embrace the moment. There aren’t many chances to play at Wimbledon, so I’m going to enjoy it.”
She will face fellow Briton Mimi Xu in the opening round.
