Udupi, Jun 27: “Ensure that five guarantee schemes implemented by the state government reach every eligible beneficiary in the district,” said Ashok Kumar Kodvoor, president of the Udupi District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee.

Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, presiding over the Udupi district-level Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee meeting held at Zilla Panchayath CEO office conference hall at Rajathadri, Manipal on June 27, said, “The Karnataka state government has implemented the five ambitious guarantee schemes, ‘Anna Bhagya, Shakti Yojan, Gruha Jyothi, Gruha Lakshmi and Yuva Nidhi’, to benefit the common people, therefore they must be ensured to reach even the last person in society.”

As per the report given by Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, under Shakti Scheme, a free bus travel for women, over 2.57 cr have travelled in the district since June 2023, with 90.10 cr reimbursed.

Under the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme since August 2023, more than 2.25 lacs women have received Rs 2000 each month, amounting to Rs 870.83 cr so far. Under Gruha Jyothi, since August 2023, 2.81 lacs domestic consumers have received free electricity worth Rs 438.14 cr. Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, further stated that, “Even people have applied for the five-guarantee scheme, due to minor issues, some eligible beneficiaries are not getting registered and are unable to avail the benefits. The authorities must prioritize such applications and ensure these people are declared eligible as per rules and receive the benefits. The number of beneficiaries under the Yuva Nidhi Scheme is not as expected in the district, therefore awareness programs should be conducted in colleges to increase enrolment.”

Prateek Bayal, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, said, “More than 95 percent of eligible people are already covered under the five guarantee schemes in the district. The remaining eligible beneficiaries must also receive these benefits.” He also added that the success stories and experiences of beneficiaries should be documented and publicized and skill development training should be provided to Yuva Nidhi beneficiaries to enable them to take up self-employment.

Udupi Taluk Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee President Ramesh Kanchan said that earlier KSRTC buses operated to some rural areas, but services were stopped after COVID, causing inconvenience to the public and students. He urged for the resumption of bus services on priority.

Brahmavar Taluk Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee president Dr Sunita Shetty said that under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, when a beneficiary woman dies, despite applying to update BPL cards to include the legal heir as the new beneficiary, these updates are not happening, preventing them from availing the scheme benefits. Necessary corrections must be done, she urged.
