New Delhi, Jun 27: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting that two-wheelers would soon be subject to toll charges. In an official clarification, NHAI stated that the government has no such proposal under consideration and labelled the circulating claims as false.
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari echoed this stance in a social media post, condemning the spread of unverified news. “Some media houses are spreading misleading news about imposing toll tax on two-wheelers. No such decision has been proposed. The exemption will continue fully,” he wrote, calling such reporting irresponsible and misleading.
The confusion stemmed from prior reports hinting at the end of toll-free travel for two-wheelers starting July 15, 2025, alongside the possible discontinuation of complimentary FASTags for two-wheelers. However, two-wheelers will remain exempt from tolls, a policy originally designed to ease the financial load on lower-income commuters and reduce congestion.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is set to roll out a FASTag-based annual pass for private four-wheelers like cars and vans, effective August 15. Priced at Rs 3,000, the pass will be available for activation via the Rajmarg Yatra App and official NHAI and MoRTH platforms.
