Mangaluru, Jun 25: A special awareness program was held in Kavoor to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed globally on June 26. The event was jointly organized by the Mangaluru North ACP Sub-Division (Panambur) and Dr Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital, Arkula, with a mission to highlight the dangers of drug abuse and the need to eliminate illicit trafficking.

Awareness sessions highlight family and community roles

Shashikala, counsellor and coordinator of community and educational services at Dr Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital, delivered a talk focusing on drug awareness and addiction prevention. She stressed the importance of vigilance at the family, school, and community levels, pointing out that early intervention and consistent attention to children’s behaviour can help prevent them from falling into drug use.

Police and public participation

The event also saw participation from assistant commissioner of police Shrikanth K and police inspectors from Kavoor, Panambur, Surathkal, Mulki, Bajpe, and Moodbidri police stations. Their presence underscored the importance of law enforcement in the fight against drug-related issues.

Engaging the wider community

Principals and students from various colleges, paying guest and homestay owners, and members of the general public took part in the program and gained valuable insights into the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of mental health.
