Tehran, Jun 24: In a significant escalation of tensions surrounding its nuclear programme, Iran on Monday signalled its intent to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog.

The announcement came from Iran's Parliament Speaker, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, who took to social media platform X to reveal that lawmakers are working on a bill aimed at severing ties with the agency.

"In parliament, we are seeking to pass a bill to suspend Iran's cooperation with the IAEA," Ghalibaf stated, accusing the agency of showing a lack of professionalism and neutrality in its dealings with Tehran.

The development follows a recent resolution adopted by the IAEA in June, which condemned Iran for its continued lack of transparency and cooperation regarding its nuclear activities. The resolution, which drew sharp criticism from Iranian authorities, has deepened the rift between Tehran and the international community.

This move, if passed, could mark a turning point in the already fragile relationship between Iran and global nuclear governance bodies, potentially pushing the region further into geopolitical uncertainty amid ongoing conflict involving the U.S. and Israel.
