New Delhi, June 18: The Sahitya Akademi on Wednesday, June 18 announced the names of winners for its Bal Sahitya Puraskar and Yuva Puraskar 2025, honouring notable contributions to Indian literature across 24 languages. Among the awardees were two Konkani writers — Nayana Adarkar and Glynis Dias — recognised for their creative excellence in children's and youth literature, respectively.
Nayana Adarkar received the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for her story collection Belabaicho Shankar Aani Haer Kanyo, while Glynis Dias was honoured with the Yuva Puraskar for her short story collection Gaavgaathaa. Both awards recognise outstanding literary works first published between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023.
The Bal Sahitya Puraskar award comprises an engraved copper plaque and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. It is conferred based on recommendations made by a three-member jury in each language. For Konkani, the jury included Kumud Bhiku Naik, Rajay Pawar, and Louis Rodrigues.
The Yuva Puraskar, also carrying a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with an engraved copper plaque, recognises emerging voices in Indian literature under the age of 35. The Konkani jury for this category included Anant Agni, H J Goveas, and Madhav Borcar.
The award presentation ceremony will be held at a later date.
