Be
ngaluru, June 17: The Karnataka High Court on Monday once again adjourned the hearing of a bail plea filed by former MP Prajwal Revanna, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with multiple sexual assault and misconduct cases.

The hearing took place before the bench of Justice S R Krishna Kumar. Senior advocate Prabhuling Navadgi, representing Prajwal, argued that the initial case involved a sexual harassment complaint, and only later was it converted into a rape charge. He further submitted that the alleged incident took place five years ago, suggesting that the accusations were being used to frame Prajwal Revanna.

In this particular case, Prajwal’s father and current MLA, H D Revanna, is the primary accused, while Prajwal is named as the second accused. Navadgi also noted that one of the investigations is already underway and that the charges involve statements from 158 witnesses, making it unlikely for the trial to conclude anytime soon.

In response, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Jagadish informed the court that a total of four cases have been filed, with hearings already underway in two of them. He sought time to file objections to the bail plea.

Taking note of the request, the High Court granted time to file objections and adjourned the matter to June 20 for the next hearing.

Prajwal Revanna has been in judicial custody since May 31, when he was arrested upon returning from Germany, based on a sexual assault complaint. He is facing charges under IPC Sections 376, 376(2)(k), 354, 354A, and 354B.His father Revanna is booked under Sections 354 and 354A.

The case gained widespread attention after explicit videos allegedly involving Prajwal surfaced in the media. In response, the Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on April 27.

Prajwal, who had used his diplomatic passport to leave for Germany, was suspended from his party on April 30. An Interpol Blue Corner notice was issued on May 5 to trace him abroad.

After remaining in Germany for nearly a month, Prajwal returned to Bengaluru from Munich on May 31 and was arrested at the airport. Since then, he has been fighting a legal battle seeking bail—but even after a year, his time in custody continues.
