Blast at pharma unit in Nagpur kills one, six injured

Nagpur, Jun 17: One person was killed and six others injured in a powerful blast that rocked a pharma manufacturing unit in Bhilgaon, Nagpur district on Tuesday morning, police said.

The explosion occurred around 11 am in a glass line reactor at Ankit Pulps and Boards Pvt Ltd, a company engaged in producing microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), a substance widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

A senior police officer confirmed that the blast led to the immediate death of one worker, while six others sustained injuries. All the injured were rushed to a hospital in Kamptee, with one of them reported to be in critical condition.

The cause of the blast remains unknown and is under investigation.

The company, as per its official website, specializes in manufacturing excipients—substances used as binders and fillers in medicines—serving various pharmaceutical segments.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough probe into the incident to determine the exact cause and assess safety protocols at the facility.
