Sullia: Priority only for Bengaluru-bound passengers in KSRTC buses sparks protest

Sullia, June 16: Chaos erupted at the KSRTC bus stand in Subrahmanya on June 15 afternoon after hundreds of passengers staged a protest against the alleged preferential treatment given only to those travelling directly to Bengaluru in KSRTC buses.

Passengers heading to other destinations such as Sakleshpur, Hassan, Madikeri, and Mysuru complained that they were being denied entry into Bengaluru-bound buses, even though they had waited for hours.

Frustrated, the angry passengers blocked the bus stand road by placing nearby barricades, disrupting traffic. They also blocked the road leading to Adi Subrahmanya, further escalating the commotion around the bus stand.

As the situation grew tense, Subrahmanya police arrived at the scene. Sub-inspector Karthik intervened and pacified the protestors. He spoke to the bus staff and requested that passengers bound for other destinations also be allowed to board the Bengaluru buses.

After discussions, authorities agreed to accommodate all waiting passengers, following which the barricades were removed and bus operations resumed to various destinations.

Heavy rush of devotees
The incident occurred during a weekend rush as large numbers of devotees had arrived at Kukke Subrahmanya Temple due to the second Saturday and Sunday holidays. Many had travelled by bus, leading to heavy congestion at the bus stand.
