Bengaluru, June 15: A woman software engineer allegedly attacked a BMTC driver with her slippers after he refused to halt the bus directly in front of her office, citing traffic rules and congestion.

The bizarre incident took place on Saturday, June 14, near Kaikondrahalli along Sarjapura Road, causing panic among passengers.

The accused has been identified as Kavya (30), while the driver, Athahar Hussain (40), works with the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

According to the complaint, Kavya boarded the bus at Kaikondrahalli bus stop and requested that the driver stop the bus precisely at her office entrance. When the driver declined, citing operational rules and heavy traffic, she allegedly began shouting, claiming she was experiencing stomach pain, and insisted he stop.

The driver complied by pulling over safely to the side. However, instead of disembarking quietly, Kavya verbally abused him using foul language, despite his warnings that the bus was equipped with CCTV surveillance.

Matters escalated further when Kavya allegedly removed her slippers and struck the driver, shocking fellow passengers.

The driver, reportedly shaken by the attack, approached the Bellandur police station and filed a formal complaint. Based on his statement, police detained the woman. She was released after tendering an apology, sources confirmed.

The incident has sparked concerns among BMTC staff, with several employees demanding stronger action against passenger misconduct and better protection for public transport workers.
