Kasargod: Red alert issued, schools and colleges to remain closed on June 16

Kasargod, June 15:  Following the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for very heavy rainfall in Kasaragod district, the district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Monday, June 16, as a safety precaution.

The order, issued by District Collector Bhandari Swagat Ranveerchand, covers all schools, professional colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, tuition centres, madrasas, anganwadis, and special coaching classes across the district.

The red alert comes amid intensified southwest monsoon activity over coastal Kerala and Karnataka. Authorities expect severe rainfall, localised flooding, and potential disruption to normal life, especially in low-lying areas.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during peak rainfall hours, and follow updates from official sources.

The administration said further decisions regarding reopening of institutions will depend on how weather conditions evolve over the next 24 hours.
