Unhygienic conditions near LAMP Society in Adi Udupi due to meat shop waste disposal

Udupi, Jun 13: Residents and members of the Udupi Taluk Parishista Vargagala Dodda Pramanada Vividhoddesha Sahakara Sangha Niyamit (LAMP) in Adi Udupi have raised serious concerns over unhygienic conditions caused by the improper disposal of waste from nearby meat shops.

Due to the absence of proper drainage pipelines at the rear side of the meat shops, waste blood and wastewater are flowing into the society’s premises, leading to stagnation and severe health hazards.

The waste materials, including blood and dirty water from slaughtered animals such as goats and sheep, are seeping through the boundary walls into the society compound. This accumulation has become a breeding ground for insects, mosquitoes, and various disease-causing organisms. Furthermore, the condition is worsening as the contaminated water seeps into the well, rendering it unusable and producing an unbearable stench.

This situation has severely impacted not only the members and customers of the society but also the beneficiaries of the government’s Public Distribution System (PDS), as ration distribution takes place at the same premises. The lack of action from the city municipality has added to the grievances.

The society members have appealed to the concerned authorities to take immediate action to construct a proper underground drainage system to prevent such contamination and ensure public health and hygiene in the area.
