Mangaluru, Jun 12: Speaker U T Khader has expressed deep concern over the recent incidents in the district, describing them as a ‘black mark’ on the region. "I am deeply hurt by the events that have taken place. Our focus should be on preserving peace and harmony in the district," he said.

He emphasized that maintaining peace is not solely the responsibility of the government and elected representatives. "It is the duty of every individual in society to contribute to building a healthy and peaceful community. Whatever we say and do should aim at promoting unity, not division."

Khader also stressed the vital role of the police in upholding peace. "The police must take strict action when necessary and continue to uphold public trust. No one has the right to kill or assault another, and no space should be given for provocative statements."

He urged the home minister to establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for police operations. "Each officer currently follows a different working style. There should be a uniform approach to handling incidents. When a new officer took charge, we witnessed a different way of dealing with issues. Why wasn’t the same action taken earlier? This inconsistency must be resolved through a standardized SOP."

Khader also said, “A letter will be written to the Home Minister demanding a high-level probe into the actions of the previous Police Commissioner and SP regarding the untoward incidents in the district.”

Khader further stated that those accused in murder cases should be completely disassociated from society, politics, the legal system, and even legal representation.

When asked about the recent stampede in Bengaluru, Khader responded, "Such incidents should not happen. However, I was not in Bengaluru at the time and am not fully aware of the situation."
