Mangaluru, Jun 10: In a swift and coordinated rescue operation, the Indian Navy vessel INS Surat arrived at the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), Panambur at 10:45 pm on Monday, carrying 18 crew members rescued from the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503, which caught fire at sea.
The MV Wan Hai 503 was enroute from Colombo to Mumbai when it caught fire on June 9, approximately 78 nautical miles off the Beypore coast in Kerala. Responding promptly to the distress call, the Indian Navy launched a successful rescue operation, retrieving 18 of the 22 crew members on board.



Among the rescued crew, two were critically injured: Lu Yanli and Sonitur Haeni.
Four crew members sustained minor injuries. They are Xu Fabao, Guo Linino, Thein Than Htay, and Kyi Zaw Htoo.
Twelve others escaped unhurt and have been safely shifted to a hotel in Mangaluru. The uninjured crew members are Wei, Chun-Ju, Tag Peng, Kan Hiue Wal, Lin, Chun Cheng, Feng Li, Li Fengguang, Thet Htut Swe, Guo Erchun, Holik Asyari, Su Wei, Chang, Ren-Han, and Wu, Wen-Chi.
Tragically, four crew members remain missing at sea. They have been identified as Yu, Bo-Fong, San Win, Zaenal Abidin, and Hsieh, Chia-Wen.
Of the 22-member crew, 8 are Chinese, 4 are Taiwanese, 4 are from Myanmar, and 2 are from Indonesia.
Authorities at the port, along with local police, are extending all necessary assistance to ensure the injured receive immediate and appropriate medical attention. Search operations for the missing crew members are ongoing.
