Saudi Arabia pushes tourism as economic engine under Vision 2030

Riyadh, Jun 9: Saudi Arabia is intensifying efforts to position tourism as a key driver of its economy by 2030, according to a report by Asharq Al-Awsat. This strategy forms a cornerstone of the Vision 2030 blueprint championed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aiming to diversify the Kingdom’s economy away from its traditional reliance on oil.

The Kingdom has set an ambitious goal of attracting 100 million annual domestic and international visits. Major initiatives include the development of large-scale “giga-projects” like NEOM and the Red Sea Project, which are expected to attract significant tourism and investment.

In addition to these massive developments, Saudi Arabia is implementing social reforms and expanding its infrastructure to welcome more visitors. The introduction of a tourist visa system in 2019 marked a pivotal moment, opening the door to global travelers for the first time.

By boosting tourism, Saudi Arabia aims to increase the sector’s contribution to its GDP and create jobs, aligning with its broader vision of fostering a vibrant, diversified economy by 2030.
