Mangaluru, Jun 7: Police have taken a postgraduate (PG) student of a private medical college, Deralakatte into custody in connection with a bomb threat call made to the institution. Shockingly, the same student who lodged the complaint was found to be the one behind the threat, police have confirmed.
The accused, Chalasani Monika Choudhary, hailing from North India, was pursuing her PG studies at the private medical college. On May 4, she was scheduled to present a seminar as part of her academic requirements. According to the investigation, in an attempt to avoid the seminar, Monika falsely claimed a bomb threat at the college earlier that morning.

She allegedly told the college staff that she had received multiple threatening calls on her mobile phone. Based on her claim, the college administration advised her to file a complaint, which she did at the Ullal police station. Consequently, the police began investigating her as the complainant and formed a special team to probe the matter.
As the investigation progressed, police discovered inconsistencies in her statements. They learned that she was supposed to deliver a seminar on the same day and was still attending PG classes at the institution.
Further investigation revealed that Monika had sent a message to a friend in Hyderabad, asking him to call the hospital's landline and make a threatening call. Oblivious to the implications, the friend, an employee at an IT company in Hyderabad, made the call. When hospital staff questioned the nature of the call, Monika allegedly declared it to be a bomb threat, creating panic.
She later filed a complaint at the Ullal police station as if she were a victim of the threat. Upon interrogation, the Hyderabad-based friend reportedly claimed he had no knowledge of the motive behind the call.
Monika has been detained for providing false information, and the investigation is ongoing. Following the threat, Ullal police, along with the bomb disposal squad, conducted a thorough search of the hospital premises. No explosive or suspicious items were found, confirming it to be a hoax bomb threat.
