Ayodhya, Jun 3: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old youth who had recently cleared medical and physical tests for Border Security Force (BSF) recruitment was allegedly hacked to death outside his home in Patel Nagar under Bikapur police limits in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased, Dinesh Kumar Verma, was attacked while he was asleep beneath a shanty just 300 metres from the local police station and 26 kilometres from Ayodhya district headquarters. Police suspect a land dispute as the motive behind the brutal assault, which involved sharp-edged weapons.

An FIR under sections 103(1) (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) has been registered by the victim’s elder brother, Vinod Kumar Verma. The complaint names their uncle Ashok Kumar Verma and neighbour Ram Krishna Verma as the main accused, along with Ashok’s wife and one Ram Prakash Verma as co-conspirators.

Vinod revealed that his sister, Soni Verma, had seen three people near the shanty before their father, Raj Kumar Verma, discovered Dinesh’s body around 1 am. “There was a thunderstorm and no electricity. Due to a generator running nearby, no one heard any noise,” he said.

Raj Kumar, who runs a pan shop, had returned home around 10 pm on Monday and arranged for the generator at Dinesh’s request due to a power outage. While the family was inside the house, Dinesh remained outside. It was only when Raj Kumar stepped out later that he found his son lying motionless.

Police have detained two of the named accused, while a manhunt is underway to nab Ashok Kumar Verma and Ram Krishna Verma, who are currently absconding. Additional forces have been deployed in the area to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident.
