Tej Pratap’s expulsion just pre-poll drama, says estranged wife Aishwarya Rai

Patna, May 26: Aishwarya Rai, estranged wife of Tej Pratap Yadav and granddaughter of former Bihar CM Daroga Prasad Rai, has dismissed his expulsion from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) by party patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav as mere political drama ahead of elections in Bihar.

“They did it for polls. This drama is for polls,” said Aishwarya, visibly upset, while speaking to reporters.

In a scathing attack, she alleged the entire Yadav family was complicit in shielding Tej Pratap despite knowing about his alleged relationship. “I’m sure Rabri Devi must have gone to him, wiped his tears and promised to fix everything. They’re all in this together,” she claimed.

Lalu Prasad Yadav had on Sunday expelled his elder son Tej Pratap from the RJD and severed familial ties, calling his conduct “irresponsible”. The move followed a controversial Facebook post by Tej Pratap where he claimed to be “in a relationship for 12 years”. The post was later deleted, with Tej Pratap alleging his account was hacked.

Reacting to this, Aishwarya said, “Now everyone knows the truth. If they all knew, why did he marry me? Why was my life ruined?”

She further said she had no prior knowledge of Tej Pratap’s alleged relationship. “I got to know everything through the media even about the divorce. His family knew everything. The 12-year secret is out now,” she stated.

Targeting the RJD chief, she said, “Lalu Prasad talks about social justice now, but where was that justice when I was thrown out of the house?”

Aishwarya and Tej Pratap married in a lavish ceremony in May 2018, but their relationship soured quickly. She had previously accused her husband and in-laws of domestic violence and mental harassment. The matter remains in court, with the divorce petition still pending in a Bihar family court.
