Mumbai, May 20: Days after voicing opposition to all-party delegations, the Shiv Sena (UBT) on Tuesday extended its support to India’s global anti-terror campaign, citing ‘national interest’ following a phone call from union minister Kiren Rijiju to Uddhav Thackeray.

The party confirmed that Rijiju had contacted Thackeray on Sunday to discuss the delegation visits, reassuring that the initiative was to highlight India’s stand against terrorism, not political in nature.

“We assured the government that we will do what is right and necessary for the country,” Sena (UBT) said in a post on X. The party’s Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi will now join one of the seven delegations comprising 51 MPs and leaders across parties.

Earlier, Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut had called for a boycott of the delegations, accusing the Centre of using them to cover up its failures. However, the party has now reiterated support for any move aimed at exposing Pakistan-based terrorism globally, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

While backing the effort, Sena (UBT) emphasized the need for better communication and protocol from the Centre to avoid “chaos and mismanagement” and called for an all-party meeting chaired by the PM to discuss national security developments.

The party also maintained its stance on seeking accountability for “intelligence failures” in the Pahalgam attack, but said it would raise those questions domestically while uniting globally against terror.
