Goan Welfare Association marks 25 glorious years with glittering May Queen Ball in Qatar

Doha, May 17: In a jubilant celebration of culture, music, and unity, the Goan Welfare Association (GWA) hosted its landmark 25th Annual May Queen Ball in Qatar on May 9, in the Giwana Ballroom at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha.

Drawing a vibrant crowd of Goans and fellow Indians from the region and others who travelled from as far as Australia, United Kingdom and Goa, as well as from the neighboring GCC states of Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The event stood out as one of the most grandly executed programs in the association’s history.

Presided over by GWA president, Simon D’Silva, the silver jubilee celebration was an unforgettable evening of music, entertainment, and cultural pride.

The honourable chief minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant, was scheduled to personally attend the 25th Anniversary Annual May Quen Ball event, but had to opt out at the last moment due to circumstances beyond his control. Dr Sawant shared a warm-hearted video message of congratulations to GWA and to its president Simon D’Silva on this milestone occasion.

In his lengthy video address, he wished well to all Goans present, outlining various government subsidy schemes available to Goan entrepreneurship, encouraging them to avail of such opportunities. Also scheduled to attend the event along with the CM, was Adv Narendra Sawaiker, the commissioner for NRI Affairs, Goa, who shared a short video message conveying his support & good wishes to all NRI Goans.

The Indian ambassador to Qatar, Vipul, graced the event as chief guest and the event was compered by Goa’s most popular MC Updesh Swar, who enthusiastically engaged the crowd throughout the evening along with Goa’s most popular and leading entertainment band Raagas2Riches whose blend of rhythm and melody kept spirits soaring. Adding further brilliance to the event was the presence of DJ Queency from UK.

The main entertainment of the night was a power-packed performance by the sensational Mark Revlon, who brought the audience to its feet with his dynamic stage presence and electrifying set.

The much sought for highlight of the evening was the “May Queen Contest” in which several young women displayed their intelligence, confidence, poise and humor, and were happily cheered on by the audience. Geetika Chopra, cabin crew, Qatar Airways was crowned the May 25 Queen and walked away with fabulous prizes like gold necklace by Prakkat Jewellers, couple airline ticket Doha-Mumbai-Doha by Akasa Air, Desert Safari trip for two by travel designer, overnight stay with breakfast for two at IBIS, gift hampers by Gee Creations and Insta face.

Sheena Martis who just completed masters in international management from Trinity College of Ireland was adjudged first runner-up and walked away with a diamond bracelet by Al-Sulaiman Jewellery and Watches, airline ticket doha-muscat-doha by Oman Air, overnight stay with breakfast for two at IBIS, Desert Safari trip by travel designer, gift hampers by Gee Creations and Insta face.

The second runner-up was Nausheen Panali, who recently received honors degree in cyber security from State University of New York, presented with gold ring by Al-Sulaiman Jewellery and Watches, airline ticket doha-muscat-doha by Oman Air, overnight stay with breakfast for two by Treffen House Hotel, Desert Safari trip by travel designer, gift hampers by Gee Creations and Insta face.

The panel of judges were Azim Abbas from Qatar, Gerald Lobo – Australia, Sandra Ribeiro – Bahrain and Cindy Fernandes - Kuwait

With meticulous planning, outstanding performances, and enthusiastic participation, the 25th Annual May Queen Ball was more than a milestone. It was a masterclass in community spirit and cultural celebration, earning praise as one of the finest events.

The Goan Welfare Association, under the enterprising leadership of Simon D’Silva, also honoured and presented mementos of recognition to few overseas and Doha outstanding personalities for their entrepreneurship and active social engagement to their respective communities.
