Hebron, May 4: Israeli soldiers and settlers have reportedly harassed Palestinian activist Issa Amro, who was recently featured in the BBC documentary The Settlers, drawing global attention to the plight of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Amro shared footage showing armed soldiers and settlers raiding his home in Hebron. He said Israeli police also threatened to arrest him if he filed a complaint an action he called another sign of the apartheid-like conditions imposed by Israel in the West Bank.

The harassment comes amid rising settler violence across the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with settlers emboldened by lack of police action and citing religious claims to the land. Amro said settlers who attacked him claimed support from former US President Donald Trump, which has encouraged more aggressive actions.

The BBC documentary, produced by Louis Theroux, explores the growing settler movement, its religious motivations, and state-backed expansion of settlements considered illegal under international law. It includes interviews with both Palestinians and Israeli settlers, including longtime settler leader Daniella Weiss, who voiced support for expanding Jewish presence in Gaza and the West Bank.

The documentary also highlights how settler expansion poses a major threat to the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state a stance echoed by the United Nations and the International Court of Justice, which has deemed the occupation unlawful.

Amro's harassment follows a similar incident involving No Other Land co-director Hamdan Ballal, who was assaulted and arrested by Israeli forces shortly after his film won an Oscar. These incidents have reignited concerns about the safety of activists and journalists working in occupied territories, especially as more than 200 media personnel have been killed in Gaza since the onset of Israel’s war there.

Theroux confirmed that his team remains in regular contact with Amro.
