Cairo, May 3: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Massad Boulos, Advisor to the US President for Arab and Middle East Affairs, held a key phone conversation on Friday, focusing on bilateral ties and regional security challenges.
The talks centred on the strategic partnership between Cairo and Washington, with discussions spanning the Middle East and African regions, particularly hotspots like Sudan, Libya, the Horn of Africa, and eastern DR Congo.
Abdelatty, outlining Egypt’s views, stressed that African conflicts require political, not military, solutions. He reiterated President El-Sisi’s efforts to foster peace, stability, and reconstruction across the continent, while calling for greater international humanitarian support.
The Egyptian minister also expressed strong backing for stability in Sudan and Somalia, emphasising the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Turning to Lebanon, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the Lebanese government and institutions. He condemned any violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and called for the unconditional withdrawal of Israeli forces from the south, urging full implementation of UN Resolution 1701.
On Syria, Abdelatty denounced the recent Israeli airstrike near the presidential palace in Damascus, calling it a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. He reiterated Egypt’s non-interference stance and pressed for an inclusive political solution involving all Syrian groups.
The call concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close coordination to advance shared goals and tackle pressing regional peace and security concerns.
