Panaji, May 3: Tension gripped the BITS Pilani Goa campus after the death of 20-year-old Krishna Kasera, a second-year engineering student from Lucknow, who was found hanging in his hostel room on Thursday morning. The family has refused to claim the body, alleging institutional negligence and possible foul play.
Speaking to media persons, Krishna's mother, Manisha Kasera, said her son had messaged her the previous day, saying he felt unwell. "He didn’t reply after that. We thought he might be in the library studying. But the next morning, after he didn’t answer our calls, we contacted the warden. Only then did we learn he was no more. This is sheer negligence," she said in tears.
The family is now preparing to take legal action against the institute.
Aman Poddar, the student’s uncle, questioned the suspicious circumstances, pointing out that this is the third suicide case on the campus in recent months. “There are no CCTV cameras in hostel corridors, and the administration didn’t even inform us after his death. We suspect something seriously wrong is being covered up. Until we get concrete answers, we won’t accept the body.”
He further alleged that despite charging high fees, the institute failed to provide basic hostel facilities, forcing students to spend long hours in the library. “They even collected Rs 90,000 for an internship, which feels like exploitation,” he claimed.
Another family member, Manish Poddar, added that Krishna had approached the campus counselling centre on April 26, but no meaningful intervention was made. “What’s the use of mental health support if it doesn’t prevent such tragedies? Why was the family not informed?” he asked.
The family has demanded a full investigation, accountability from the college, and strict measures to prevent further loss of life.
Campus officials have yet to issue a formal statement.
