Mangaluru: Mescom begins power restoration after April storms damage 1,500 poles in DK

Mangaluru, May 1: In Dakshina Kannada (DK) district, a total of 1,574 electric poles and 19 transformers were damaged during the month of April due to heavy winds and rain, according to officials from Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Mescom).

Efforts are currently underway to restore electricity to all affected consumers across the district. During April, nearly 4,500 km of tree branches near or in contact with power lines were cleared, 332 old and deteriorated poles were replaced, and 86 km of power lines were restrung to ensure uninterrupted supply.

To expedite restoration and strengthen infrastructure ahead of the monsoon, 70 dedicated repair batches have been deployed. Additionally, 150 extra gangmen and 29 vehicles have been mobilised specifically for pre-monsoon maintenance efforts.

MESCOM has reminded residents that its call centre (dial 1912) is operational 24x7 in all subdivisions. Consumers are encouraged to report electricity-related issues promptly through this channel.

Officials assured that all necessary measures are being taken to fully restore power and enhance system resilience in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season.
