Beltangady, May 1: Several parts of Beltangady taluk experienced heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning on April 30, causing damage to property and disruption in daily life.

A large tree was uprooted due to the storm and fell across the college road in Ujire. The tree landed on a moving motorcycle, completely damaging the vehicle. However, the rider, identified as Amit from Neera Chilume, miraculously escaped without any injuries.

Locals blamed MESCOM officials for cutting tree branches unscientifically, which they claimed contributed to the tree falls.

In another incident, a coconut tree fell on the house of Vanitha Shetty in Putra Bailu, Layila, causing extensive damage to the roof.

More than 10 electric poles reportedly collapsed in the MESCOM sub-division in Ujire. Several areas in the taluk had also received rainfall on April 29.
