Bengaluru, Apr 30: Karnataka Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, criticising him over the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) controversy and reacting strongly to his recent remarks on Pakistan.
Addressing the media, Narayanaswamy alleged that Siddaramaiah’s comments had become increasingly irresponsible. Referring to the Chief Minister’s earlier statement that “India is not at war with Pakistan,” he remarked sarcastically that Siddaramaiah might soon be “searching for land in Pakistan,” not just in Mysuru.
He went on to mock the Congress, suggesting that its leaders seemed to find more resonance in Pakistan than in India. “Perhaps they should consider contesting elections there,” he said.
The comments come as Siddaramaiah faces scrutiny by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with alleged irregularities related to land allotments by MUDA.
Narayanaswamy also referred to an incident in Belagavi where members of the BJP Mahila Morcha reportedly staged a protest, displaying black clothes. He alleged that Siddaramaiah responded angrily, even confronting a senior police officer on stage. “But where was this outrage,” he asked, “when 26 Indians lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam?”
He further claimed that growing public discontent was visible across the country and that the Congress was losing relevance. Citing the deletion of a social media post by the party, he alleged that it showed fear and lack of resolve. “They posted a derogatory comment about the Prime Minister and later took it down. That shows cowardice,” he said.
Taking a dig at the Congress’s leadership, Narayanaswamy added, “A party without a head cannot lead. Some have no heads, some have heads without brains, and some have brains disconnected from their speech.”
The remarks are part of an ongoing political war of words between the BJP and the Congress in Karnataka, intensifying as investigations and election rhetoric gather momentum.
