Kundapur: JD(S) MLC Bhoje Gowda urges govt to hold CET re-exam

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapura (MS)

Kundapura, Apr 23: “Students have been subjected to chaos in this year’s CET examination as they were given questions that were out of syllabus. The examination needs to be withdrawn and a re-examination should be held. In addition, the erring officials should be suspended,” said JD (S) leader and MLC Bhoje Gowda.

Gowda further said, “Around three lac students wrote the Common Entrance Test (CET) examination conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority for engineering and other professional courses. Out of this more than 45 out of syllabus questions were asked in Biology, Maths, Physics and Chemistry subjects. Thereby the officials of KEA have exhibited their negligence."

“Generally the syllabus for CET includes the textbook subjects that are prescribed for first and second PU students. So whatever syllabus the Karnataka PU board gives to students in the first and second PU, CET question paper needs to be set by KEA. The negligence of KEA officials is the reason for this confusion," he said.

Bhoje Gowda further said, “They have published lessons that were excluded in the PU board website. On the website there are subjects of the first and second PU. However, without taking them into account, they have added the excluded lessons as well and prepared the question papers. KEA should immediately give a clarification on the 45% of the questions that were asked out of syllabus. This is the responsibility of KEA department and the government. Erring officials should be kept under suspension immediately. In addition, based on the prescribed syllabus a re-examination needs to be held soon.”

I doubt our education system especially higher education is under the shadow of private parties. Education is a business in the hands of powerful politicians who run Educational institutions and profit centers. Many "Prestigious" private schools , Engg & Medical colleges are affiliated to politicians across party lines. Merit is no matter if you have plenty of money & get payment seat.

KCET is poorly managed and I am not sure if parents have appetite for another session of sun fry especially considering hot weather and if delayed have to conduct the exam in monsoon season. Most colleges of repute do not even entertain CET marks. What is the point? The ranks and standing of a particular candidate will still be the same because baseline of deleted portion of syllabus is common for all. No need for another exam.
