Udupi, Dec 2: The grand silver jubilee celebrations of Mount Rosary English School, Santhekatte were held on Thursday December 2. Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, diocese of Udupi, presided over the jubilee celebrations.

Raghava Shetty, nodal officer Brahmavar block was the chief guest for the programme. Sr Juliet Lobo SRA, provincial superior, missionary sisters of Queen of the Apostles, Dr Jerry Vincent Dias, chairman Mandavi Real Estate & Developers, Krishna S, president Kallianpur gram panchayat, Baptist Dias, vice president parish pastoral committee, and Dr Reeny Ravina Dias, alumna were the guests of honour for the silver jubilee celebrations. All the dignitaries were welcomed by the grand school band.

Addressing the gathering Raghava Shetty said, “The School Day is a stage for exhibiting students’ talents. I congratulate everyone for organizing such a programme. In 1997, Mount rosary English School was started with 25 children, but today, the number of students here has grown to more than 1,500. Parents should never think that their children are the responsibility of teachers alone. Parents' role is most important in the personal growth of their children. Mobile phones and television are bad for children. Parents should also take responsibility of the children and should see that they do not become slaves of mobile phones and television. Parents should love the school which their children are attending. Mount Rosary English School is known for its discipline. The school is providing quality education for very nominal fees. Let the number of children reach 15,000 during the centenary celebrations of the school. SSLC students should start preparing for their final examinations with immediate effect.”

In his presidential address, Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, diocese of Udupi said, “I congratulate everyone on this great occasion. Every nation has its own characteristics. Education enables the people of the nation to become good citizens. Education brings about a revolution of knowledge. Education is not just reading and writing, it is the development of humanity. It should accompany the all-round development of children. Today, we are giving more importance for attaining knowledge, but it should help in all-round development of our mind and body. Education should also help us to bring out our hidden talents and display them in front of the world. Today, we are living in an information technology era. Value based education is the need of the hour. Dear students, though you are small, always dream high and let your dream aim for the sky. Everybody can achieve success in life. Hard work is the only mantra to achieve success. Shine wherever you are, bring name and fame to your institution and to your home as well.”

Dr Jerry Vincent Dias said, “It is not so easy to build an educational institution. Thirty years ago there was just a church here. Fr Godfrey Saldanha was fond of children and he took a challenge to begin this institution. With just 25 students, he started this school. It was not an easy task to build a school building. There were financial problems we faced during the construction of the same. I then pledged one of my commercial complexes to the bank and completed the building in just 4 months. I congratulate Baptist Dias and Gerald D’Souza and all other donors for their contribution for the school. It is a great school. It has achieved 100% results. My daughter also studied in the same school and has excelled in her MD studies as well.”

Sr Juliet Lobo SRA said, “Pioneering the work was not an easy task. Sr Adrian went from door-to-door to find admission for the school. All the past headmistresses have worked hard to bring the institution to this level. A School Day is a happy moment for everyone. Today, the world gives many opportunities to children. Parents compare their children with other children. Do not worry when you fail in life, work hard and God will bless you.”

Trustees of the Mount rosary education trust, donors Dr Jerry Vincent Dias, Baptist Dias, Gerald D’Souza benefactors and room donors were honoured on the occasion. Fr Philip Neri Aranha, former correspondent Fr Rock D’Souza, correspondent Sr Vandita SRA, headmistress Sr Juliet Lobo SRA, provincial superior missionary sisters of queen of the apostles Sunita Mascarenhas, auxiliary staff Dr Reeny Ravina Dias, and alumna batch 1 Krishna S, president Kallianpur gram panchayat were honoured on the occasion by the school management.

Toppers of the school were also felicitated.

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo released a souvenir. Sr Vanditha SRA, presented the school report.
