Bringing the Lost Summertime Back

April 25, 2022

Anyone could make so bold to articulate their glorious days they possessed. Some could be fancy, victorious, excursions or make one’s way up to the hills. I too have a memorable leisure. A very refreshing one. It happened to be that moment when the summer days were highly cherished. Today, world seems to be moving faster and in a more sophisticated method. Technologies have taken a lead role in every aspect of life. Leisure has become more intricated.

Moving back to the days when everyone titled me as little kid, all my anticipation was on the summer vacation. Clearly my vacation never had a hit-list of long excursions. It was purely love for season. The terminal exam that usually took place around mid of March was always a barrier to my excitement. Yet all my mind used to count on the days and design a master plan to make my summer days a productive one. What could be more beautiful than knowing the fact of not going to school for over the period of two months?

Dawn breaks and the immediate thing I stumble-upon is to pay a brief visit to the nearby pond. It is a small area of knee-deep water which is not far from the seashore. Most of them visit there on weekends to have a good leisure. Fishing was considered to be the frequent activity here. Casting those tiny fishes in a plastic bottle and pouring them in a container as a mini aquarium at home.

Reading is naturally a matter of obsession. I grew up reading my first ever kids magazine titled ‘Magic Pot’ together with ‘Amar Chitra Katha’, ‘Tinkle’, ‘Panchatantra’ to reading copious fiction and non-fiction novels of popular writers. In the face of literature, I get consumed by the story tellers easily. All the stories I learnt from the elderly person have indeed got a strapping essence. An old lady from the native surrounding narrates her humble story in a distinctive style. She does not know what being wealthy could affluent could look like. Once she said “If god could transform Himalayan Mountain into sheets of gold, then I would bestow the happiness of those in need”. Perhaps I was too young to understand this yet I relished to the fullest. However, as I grew up, I could understand the visibility of thousands of hidden words in it.

Although literally true that we do not hold the same kind of summer vacation today. Nevertheless, I do not find the same kind of amusement anymore. Probably modern technologies have drained out energy for being productive in every possible way. Rather than searching for happiness, it is always healthier to create our own space of happiness in doing certain activities that can keep oneself committed.
