Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus: Thespian of Love, Compassion

August 25, 2021

The best thing about the internet is that it does not have boundaries. It builds a common string that binds people like a thread that binds flowers into a garland. Listing to Wilfy Rebimbus on the internet rekindles us to our roots, irrespective of where you are currently placed. The intense sense of unity prevails in the hearts of the native Konkani speaker who are otherwise divided by distance, cultures and of course the busy life of our vocations. Though divided by boarders we are united by the Konkan spirit. This spirit spreads love through the channel of Wilfy Rebimbus’ soulful and lyrical extravaganza. The solidarity comes with rekindling the spirit of the Konkani culture. A small community which has spread throughout the world, the negativity of the pandemic, the spreading of fake news, the challenges of frauds and plagiarism are all needed to be overcome.

Will the positives overcome the negatives? After all, the ethics of having a noble cause, the need to build on the spirit of goodwill will make things go the right way?

One such initiatives is ‘Mog Mulyar’ which represents a deep nostalgia and a longing for humanism that is lacking in our human consciousness. This composition of Vishwas evokes the bitter-sweet feeling set in the Konkan ethos that looks at the literary past with the longing for the future. The songs penned by Wilfy Rebimbus is strung together with a story line that indicates the immortal composition that was composed a few decades back but have relevance today in the new digital era. The show that is set to release on the feast of nativity (8th September 2021) on Daijiworld’s OTT Platform-LOCALWOOD, will be streamed into our homes, keeping alive the Konkani musical tradition building a pride in our culture and passing the hope at least to the next generation. The glimpses of the coastal people’s life, the chaotic present forms a part of the life’s spectrum set in the evergreen compositions of Wilfyab. On one side is love which is been juxtaposed with very short human temperament coupled with the distractions that modern day living offers. The sequencing is part nostalgia and part current situation that makes life what it is. No matter how smart, we think we are, there are times when we need to accept fates drastic turn. “It is not the end of the road but a bend in the road”… Mog Mulyar records the tradition of Wilfy’s iconic music that centres on the life of an average “Konkno” (a native Konkani speaker) who lives in a land which is cradled between the devil and the deep sea and has to exist by migration to distant land in seek of employment. Though they move to distant land in search of a better life, the call of the soul is very much prevalent, the attachment to one’s mother is pivotal. Wilfy’s music coupled with a modern thread line of life and death has brought about the most outstanding narrative about life, death, spirituality in the song/dance/music of the world that soothes ruffled feeling in the big bad world.

Watching this Lyrical ballad, you realise the reality of our existence. Mog Mulyar focuses on letting the eternal lyrics talk, the music sing and the camera record human feelings in an uninterrupted way. The music of Wilfy is as unique as their lyric emerges from the Mangalorean soil through the chirping of the nightingale. The human voices and dialogs fill the silence of the simple lyrics that are all the more charming because we associate it with Konkani music, with the emotions of human feelings, the raucous of Baila beats and the risqué songs that come out of the Konkani’s womb. These songs numbering 16 are about the everyday lives of people, the pains and sorrows of the intoxicated lives and the nostalgia of those who migrate to distant lands in search of employment.

The story line

Human existence has built upon the life that sparks from the fire of human emotions. The tears have set the eyes blazing. Watching this lyrical masterpiece is understandably love with the soul’s craving for union with life with the philosophical worlds of Wilfy’s poetry which is as relevant to the modern era as it was when the masterpiece was first created. We are now living our lives in a hectic world which is rucked by the miseries of human sufferings. As we go through the story line of 281stWilfyNite, we are witness to an intimate reception filled with nostalgia. The innate grace and beauty will be eye catching. That would be our ultimate fantasy coming to life. This Wilfy Nite has over 22 artists singing Wilfy’s everlasting and immortal creations, with over 80 artists lending their presence, that will enthral with passion that old is gold and gold has to be polished now and then for imbibing an unconditional spirit of love and compassion as it is shot in the best location of karavali. The story line is that of a businessman (played by Walter Nandalike) lost in the current pandemic situation, who hovering between living and dying but having a glimmer of hope with a vision looking for true love with a passion for life.

Why is Mog Mulyar the much hyped extravaganza in this time of hopefulness?

There is no understanding of a region’s culture without bringing out the achievements of our forefathers/ parents. It is not about the memories of the past. It is an indication of why we are what we are. It is the essence of today’s life. We cannot erase the past. Wilfy’s lyrics contain the people’s history, it gives us a snap shot of how our previous generations, some still with us lived, thought and felt. It is Wilfy’s songs that connect the people on the Konkan coast to their past moorings then to their lands and their cultural roots. History they say records the lives of the rulers but Wilfy’s lyrics record the average down to earth common men and women who is a hero/heroine in their own right, has his own name, builds on his own story and is preserved in the minds of the Konkani blood who after a couple of generations and the on slot of regionalism may not know and understand Konkani but will rekindle the spirit of the Konkani culture. There is reason for hope in the musical storyline of Vishwas as he has kept the musical traditions of the Konkani family alive through the long awaited 281stWilfy Nite due for release on 8th September 2021, when the immortal creation is opened through the OTT platform. Temperatures will soar, the heart’s desire satisfied and the Konkan sprit nurtured. This musical show is an ultra-new concept which has its roots in Wilfy’s dream of having a Sangeeth Natak. The dream is now realised through this lyrical ballet where the seniors have nostalgic memories of their childhood intrinsically linked with the only entrainment of yesterdays the ‘Sangeeth Natak’. This ballet can transport us to a bygone era and to the youngsters a link that reiterates that our culture is always a true entertainer. Wilfy’s pen has kept hopes of the past alive through Mog Ani Maipas and has passed it on to the next generation today through Mog Mulyar.

Fantastic article well articulated by a writer who can go to the depth of any immortal soul, who can keep the soul alive of our Konkani loving heart each an every day in this modern day singing industry. The author has touched fine thread of Olden and modern nostalgic feeling of a heart in wilfyaabs creation of songs not leaving the one who are keeping it alive and lively to relive our gensis of humanity. I heard that the first song in MOG Mulyar is composed by Vishwas and by his style of lyrics he will proved that this genes runs through him as a special Gods blessing of inheritance that our Wilfyaab has left and we will have more meaningful sensational Konkani lyrics apt to present scenario coming from him in near future which will enthrail the whole fast paced Konkani world.

Yes, at times we do not get the same type of talented Stalwarts always. Our Great and Good Singer, Wilfyab is a person of a rare breed gifted to us by Him. We were fortunate to have him for some time with us and yet, we know he lives amongst us all with his rare gift that Our Gracious Lord had bestowed upon him. We must thank our good Lord; and also our friend and companion Wilfyab to be with us always in his God given Love and Spirit of Happiness and contentment. THANK YOU DEAR LORD !!!
