Be the Change

January 10, 2013

Be the Change

Many people live in fear

Of committing fraud and sin

As criminals, they do not wish to appear

For us, hell is the ultimate fiery bin

Hell is where hatred rules

Where justice and harmony fail to pave their way through

Hell crowns and respects all fools

Punishments are hauled out of the blue

I have now stopped fearing hell

It does not intimidate me

It actually sounds kind of swell

It seems like a nicer place to be

Where I live now is worse by far

Than the nerve-wracking barriers of hell

Evil and corruption turn you into a star

While the deserving are never allowed their tale to tell

Why do I live in a land

Where the poor are treated like garbage

They are trampled on like castles in the sand

Even to merely exist, they must tirelessly forage

Why do my own country folk

Remain blind to the plight of my gender

Why are such crimes hidden under the cloak

Why do the authorities only favour the offender

Why is it that animals are locked behind a cage

But criminals are permitted to roam free

Why are we immune to a victims hurt and rage

Why are we, a proper solution, unable to foresee

A million rape survivors walk in shame

While their oppressors hold their head high

They conceive their actions to be nothing but a game

But who has really lost? The girl or the guy?

How can we live in a country

Where women are an eternally downtrodden race

Women don’t wish to be considered as holy

All we desire is justice that forever stays

The wrath we are subjected to now

Is worse than what is emotionally bearable

Don’t we deserve to be treated with love

Or must our problems be shoved rudely under the table

When are my leaders going to realize

That Im trusting on them to give me a safe life

Yet they walk away from our howls and cries

And silently watch us be prey to the knife

I can’t watch my country die like this

At the hands of these devils in human form

Who enjoy their lives with great joy and bliss

While we are forced to brave the turmoil and storm

I dream to wake up to a better tomorrow

To a time when my country becomes a paradise

No woman should have to suffer from any intolerable sorrow

Above such tragedies, our society must rise

Some day my country will change

Us, mango people, will enjoy every basic freedom

Justice, to us, will no longer seem strange

Priority will no longer be only granted to some

I deeply love my motherland, ‘India’

And I am going to help it grow

And watch it soon shine like a star

Irrespective of whether the process is fast or slow

I believe victory is soon to come

If we fight for it together

Fraternity is our only way to overcome

Our unforgettable tragedies

But the decision is now for us to make

Do we want to be a light

And lead our country to progress?

Or do we want to stand away and out of sight

And silently watch our country regress?

Nicely crafted poem by Dalia in which she has highlighted some of the evil events that are taking place in the country today, and how their effect is felt by the common people, and the society at large. She is very passionate about her country, and has expressed the hope that the progressive leaders of today and tomorrow (sadly there are not many around) will address these maligned issues and give the country and its people a better future and standing. Well done Dalia - keep going.

Congratulations for excellent poem about the hell, which we live in.
We accept the problems as a bouquet of flowers and stay in the basket like crabs.
Neither we try to solve, nor support the solutions (instead we love to face it)
We watch the match and blame the game, being audiences in a huge stadium.
Criminals survive because of the fear and weakness of poor victims
Corrupt are by our bribe, which we try to grab limited opportunities, at cheap price.
We can make a World of Difference, with the change. If wish, we can be the change

Very meaningful and touching poem apt during the current turmoil period going on in our Country. We need a new thinking as suggested in the poem.Women have to rise to the occasion and not let this spirit die. Progressive men definitely will be walking with you, shoulder to shoulder. High time we stop this disease called 'atrocities on women'.
    Weldon Dalia, keep it up.
