Yet Another Election...

March 15, 2012

Udupi–Chikmagalur constituency is all set for yet another Lok Sabha election. Due to the resignation of MP D V Sadananda Gowda, who was elevated to the position of the Chief Minister of Karnataka, there arose a need for a bypoll in this constituency. In a democratic country like India there should be a parliamentary representative in every Lok Sabha constituency. When there are unforeseen circumstances like the present one, there arises a need for by-election and every individual will have to accept it.

The point I would like to stress here is, will the man elected in the constituency be worth the pain the Election Commission is taking and the man power employed to shoulder the responsibility for the smooth conduct of the election, and the money that is spent or wasted for the purpose? Will the member live up to the expectations of the common man who casts his valuable vote to his candidate?

There hovers always a big question mark over the questions raised above. “The politics has lost its sanctity; money is the deciding master; only corruption wins at the end; honesty has no place in politics; politics is not for the cultured people; any man with a clean character wouldn’t turn his face towards politics even in his dream; only cut throats survive in politics, politics is a factory producing goondaism” – is the never ending futile cry that comes out from every gullet of a common man. But his cry becomes the cry in the wilderness. Is it that he doesn’t know about it? Of course he knows but still he continues to cry. And when there is election he yet again is ready to caste his “valuable vote” which he thinks is more valuable than a diamond.

There is a reason behind his thinking. He wants emancipation from his poverty. He wants to live a decent life as others do. He wants to give at least basic education to his children. He wants to own, if not in acres, a small piece of land on which he dreams of building a hut of his own with basic amenities. He is tired of dragging his feet for miles together to get only a pot full of clean drinking water. Now he wants someone to reciprocate to his ‘demands, - Oh! Sorry. I forgot that it is a sin on the part of a common man to make demands. He can only have needs which may or may not be fulfilled. That is why he is not tired of casting his vote.

Reality is a nightmare. Once elected, the representative goes away from the reach of the common man. The common man’s drudgery is never ending. The elected representative, who is suppose to ‘serve ‘ the common man revolves round the Queen Bee in order to get some personal and private favour by which he and his family and only his kith and kin benefit. Some other elected representatives, instead of striving to bring peace and harmony, will go on sowing poisonous seeds of communalism in the very fertile minds of the youth to spread violence which would create a vote bank for them forever.

When this being the virtual reality is there a need to say that the money that is spent and the man power that is deployed in the election process is an utter waste? For any election the Election Commission has to spend crores of rupees and has to employ millions of people. I am not trying to suggest that we should do away with elections. My question again is; are the elected representatives worth the money spent and the man power used?

We have witnessed the shocking realities of the elected representatives being pushed into the prisons not for trying to uphold the honour of the country like the freedom fighters did but for looting the common man and amassing huge money which cannot be spent by them or their families for generations. Still, no shame. They run to every temple, write secret letters to the Goddesses, lick the feet of the high command, threaten them at times. Why all this drama? This drama is for power and for money and not out of love and concern for the common man.

So it is the ardent prayer of every common man of Udupi – Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency that at least this time a friend of commoners be elected as a Member of Parliament.

Guys..chill..everytime any man casts a longing eye on offices, a rottenness begins in his conduct.

I'm sure some spineless obese politician must be laughing his way to the Vidhana Soudha reading this bickering...They divided us then..they divide us now..I don't know why, but they seem to have a tendency to separate us...

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession....I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first

I hear God is just.If so, I dread for my nation- a nation full of spineless flunkies !

Well, Most of my friends say this Article is Biased, and some demand Daiji not publish such Biased article since Medias should always work with honest and impartial way.

I would like to make two points to get solution to avoid BY-Elections in the Future.

EITHER (1), The MP/MLA who resigns, MUST and Should bear all the Expensive of the next by election which will be held due to his selfishness

OR (2) Dont conduct any By-Election, Just announce the Next Candidate who got second highest VOTES in the ELECTION as the MP/MLA or Corporator Etc..

This is avoid all the unnecessary elections in the future. Beleive me No one will Resign from the post they are in..

    Think about it....

All the bye elections are bcz of BJP govt. Operation Kamala. I hope people will teach a lesson to BJP in this Udupi Chickmanglur by election by voting congress candidate. JPH. Bellary election was a useless stunt by Shri Ramulu. Waste of money. He should be disqualified bcz from independent candidate now he joined a party. Our Karnataka High court will accept my complaint our judges are known for such judgement.

Can we have some changes in our political system? We have to independent MLA"s without any parties involving and runner up should work as deputies and they can take over in case of death or sickness of the MLA's. This will avoid by elections. We are spending too much money in these elections and by elections. Corruption starts with the party & party fund and then the MLA's start pocketing millions and there is no limit. Finally all independent MLA's can their CM. Thanks to Vincent Alv's report. It is an eye opener.

Sharath, Mangalore why you not talk about the terrorist matter? here we seen media playing double role in this matter. Recent bomb blast which done by RSS family and it not comes in main media we also knows how BJP and its media acting in those matter, not only as you mentioned.

    Dear Krishnaraj/Jeevan
Well said guys. BJP is no SAINT but In today's biased & controlled Media world, there is an constant attempt to defame only BJP. The last best Example is the incident of shooting of a IAS officer by Sand Mafia in MP. Whole media & congress are behind the Govt pressuring for CBI enquiry (which is correct) finally the state Govt had to bow for the pressure. The State Govts response was critisisable in this situation, no Doubt about that.
But today as I type this am sure ther would be one Rape or kidnap happenign in the streets of Delhi, Gurgoan or Noida. This is never a bigg issue for the media & Indian Govt as Delhi is being considered as the Rape Capital of India. This news will just come in a small space in any Media as if this is very normal. Reason ?...All know why. SriRamulu's words about funding BJP electoin Champaign becomes nation iwde sensation but Kurshid Salmans voilation of EC norms ends with simple apology. This Is India.

Hi Sir, the mood is very well articulated. It is an unfortunate reality of our times-"We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office"

Thankfully, the best thing about these group of candidates is that ONLY ONE of them can win.

Politicians and diapers should be changed frequently and all for the same reason !!

I agree with Ismail this is a waste of money.Once one elected MP or MLA resign before his tenure he should be barred from contesting any kind of election at least for ten years. Also Election commission recover the cost of past election and as well as new election. This practice is of resigning and having re election prevails not only in BJP or Karnataka.. all over India ,including Congress. Dont forget famous chikmagalore bye election where Mr Chandre Gowda resigned for Mrs Indira Gandhi.

BJP forced on us about 20 MLA by elections plus this MP by election of Udupi-Chik.If we calculate all the expenses spent by candidates and EC the amount might be Rs 400 crore!!Think of the energy, wealth and time waste!!This is the gift of BJP of Karnataka in four years. We have to stop this none senses right from here. This trend is unprecedented and never ever before.Wise voters of this by election has a golden opportunity to show what is right and what is wrong.Mr Jeevan feels this report of Vincent Alva is biased but we can vouch this report as WAKE UP CALL for matured voters.

IRRESPECTIVE OF THE PARTY TO WHICH HE BELONGS, IF ANY ONE RESIGNS FROM HIS SEAT OF MP/MLA, THE CONCERNED PARTY HAS NO RIGHT TO CONTEST FOR BYPOLL EXCEPT DEATH OF THE PERSON AND IN CASE IF IT ONCE AGAIN CONTESTS VOTERS UNITEDLY REJECT HIM FOR THE DISRESPECT SHOWN BY HIM TO THE VOTERS IN THE BYPOLL SO THAT SUCH INSTANCES WILL COME DOWN AUTOMATICALLY.

the job of an mp is to not to be with the people . It is to frame laws for the entire country not just his constituency .
As far is the favours/matters concerning citizen are there he can just listen to it (and may forward it to concernerned people , thats not his job though). thios is what the fedaralism is for at all levels state , district taluk village and city .

so while voting please vote for someone who can frame these laws
or atleast someone who can support
(maybe some party) which is capable of framing laws.

not some party which is delaying framing laws since 40 years

Well !! All are helpless.. Peoples mad to have drinks at free of cost !! Otherwise money makes everything possible !! Some time it feels that our election methods, Working styles everything regarding to nation progress is under some one’s hand or not enough well !! Here no one really feel about nation !! Some people live for nation but they don’t have rights or any other opportunities !! “If I am happy then it is enough “ This policy is all over nation !! It is not regarding to one political party it will apply to everyone.. Thus GOD have to give solution for everything or else entire world should be end.

    Mr.Vincent Alva..
Agreed, Yous points are well valid. I would like add few points here, First of all DVS resigned due to he was appointed as CM of the state and hence he was forced to resign from the post of MP. thus the new election infront of us. BUT STILL THIS IS WRONG. BJP should have avoided this election by appointing any MLA's as CM.

But, What bothers me most is that when a leaders like Sonia, Chidamburam and Rahul contests for MP election from 2 constituency why do they do not understand that if they win from both the place, A UNNECESSARY election will be held once again within six months and the country will be put up in burden again.
Why do not they understand the pain of the voters to caste vote once again, Why do they not understand the the pain the Election Commission and the man power employed to shoulder the responsibility for the smooth conduct of the election.
Why do they do not understand time value of the voters.

WHY WHY WHY ??? Are they illiterate, or it is just a FASHION ? Or is it something like this " Bharath jaise bade bade desho main aise chote mote pranks hota rehta hai" ???
