Borders of Our Mind

Borders of Our Mind

A jigsaw puzzle rearranged some million years ago
When hot and molten magma pushed the crust from down below
A land mass held together, now soon would separate
Hurled around in corners succumbing to their fate

An epitaph for Pangaea the Gods would have to write
While continental plates converged and pushed with all their might
The Earth's tectonic nature would soon reshape the land
As continents kept drifting, rift pressures to withstand

From single celled organisms, new life would soon emerge
The restless earth still changing with an adrenaline surge
Like undisputed kings on earth the dinosaurs once reigned
And then became extinct, a quirk of fate, just preordained

From the caveman who kept hunting while he learnt to make his tools
"Survival of the fittest" soon gave way to other rules
For our cerebrum kept ticking and taught us to control
Emotions and our thought process with dictates from our soul

The human race had triumphed - Veni vidi Vici
I suppose you think I'll try to write a splendid eulogy
Though we've landed on the moon and explored the realms of space
It's time we look the mirror and try to recognise that face

The borders of each nation with human hands were drawn
Silencing the timid while we moved them like a pawn
Though we've learnt to fence our land we maintain the status quo
That the "mocking bird" must die though he's not the real foe

Our defence budget's just crazy with a whopping billion spent
Man! Are we progressing? Or is this our descent?
We'd rather march the Appian Way than give peace a chance
For all is fair in love and war has always been our stance

Though we make our "Mea Culpa's" and find excuses lame
There's a selfish gene within us and we all must share the blame
The world's a stage, as Shakespeare said in which we play our part
Some day we'll make our exit and let our souls depart

When it's time to meet our maker, can we look him in the eye?
Or wash our hands like Pilate and say someone had to die
We have to leave our acres when we return to ash
And "6 by 3" is all we need, not the $$$$ that we stash.

Anita - this has been an eye opener.
When it's time to meet our maker, can we look him in the eye?
We have to leave our acres when we return to ash
And "6 by 3" is all we need, not the Dollars that we stash.
I wish many of us could atleast give our eyes for someone to see
    after we are gone.

Another gem from you Anita. Beautifully said...I do pray the world understands the importance of love and puts that beyond the imaginary lines of man made borders..Alas.it seems utopian at the moment. Pen more such lovely poems and am hoping someday you publish Anita's book of poems!!

Anita, you have brilliantly bought out the futility of war in beautiful verse. Your poem subtly nudges us to reflect on man's greed, when in the end one has to leave everything behind
