Poem: Are We Really Free?

Month after month slipped away

Year after year quickly flew away

India won freedom decades ago

O, the freedom is really trampelled away


Are we all genuinely free today?

We must question this every day

It's true India is changing day by day

But the change is of waste anyway


Infants are suffering from undernourishment

Oh! Thousands are suffering from malnutrition

Their lives are like stamped half dead worms

Which yearn for shelter and care by someone


Are we truly free, O proud Indian friend?

Where poor are exploited every second

Tortured and fired for no reason

O finally they end up taking poison


Our lives, our views are totally controlled

Like a bridle controlling a horse

Inner freedom is chained and imprisoned

Where life is becoming a curse


Dehumanizing deeds are rapidly spreading

Like the lightning of the July nights

Oh! Humane deeds are drastically fading

This really makes us think about our rights

 

We are not free, truly not free

Forces after forces binding us daily

We must rise and voice out to be free

With united spirit, it’s possible surely

 

Let us construct instead of destroying

A harmonious country which is shining

Let us share and care, not become greedy

Yes! That makes a marked difference in our country


Let’s wake up and come forward fearlessly

To build a new country of freedom and liberty.

  • The article / poem / short story should be original and previously unpublished in other websites except in the personal blog of the author. We will cross-check the originality of the article, and if found to be copied from another source in whole or in parts without appropriate acknowledgment, the submission will be rejected.
  • The author of the poem / article / short story should include a brief self-introduction limited to 500 characters and his/her recent picture (optional). Pictures relevant to the article may also be sent (optional), provided they are not bound by copyright. Travelogues should be sent along with relevant pictures not sourced from the Internet. Travelogues without relevant pictures will be rejected.
  • In case of a short story / article, the write-up should be at least one-and-a-half pages in word document in Times New Roman font 12 (or, about 700-800 words). Contributors are requested to keep their write-ups limited to a maximum of four pages. Longer write-ups may be sent in parts to publish in installments. Each installment should be sent within a week of the previous installment. A single poem sent for publication should be at least 3/4th of a page in length. Multiple short poems may be submitted for single publication.
  • All submissions should be in Microsoft Word format or text file. Pictures should not be larger than 1000 pixels in width, and of good resolution. Pictures should be attached separately in the mail and may be numbered if the author wants them to be placed in order.
  • Submission of the article / poem / short story does not automatically entail that it would be published. Daijiworld editors will examine each submission and decide on its acceptance/rejection purely based on merit.
  • Daijiworld reserves the right to edit the submission if necessary for grammar and spelling, without compromising on the author's tone and message.
  • Daijiworld reserves the right to reject submissions without prior notice. Mails/calls on the status of the submission will not be entertained. Contributors are requested to be patient.
  • The article / poem / short story should not be targeted directly or indirectly at any individual/group/community. Daijiworld will not assume responsibility for factual errors in the submission.
  • Once accepted, the article / poem / short story will be published as and when we have space. Publication may take up to four weeks from the date of submission of the write-up, depending on the number of submissions we receive. No author will be published twice in succession or twice within a fortnight.
  • Time-bound articles (example, on Mother's Day) should be sent at least a week in advance. Please specify the occasion as well as the date on which you would like it published while sending the write-up.

    India is our beloved motherland.
    Free like no other land.
    We take our land for granted.
    Criticise and condemn as unwanted.

    Oh people, oh people travel around.
    Compare yourself to nations around.
    Life is not rosy in merry go round.
    We are just fine in looking around.

    What we need is a patroitism seed.
    Never leave our land for greed.
    Stay home and try to succeed.
    Then only you will reap the seed.

    Good politicians what we need.
    Patriotism what we should breed.
    Make India to what we have in mind.
    And our India will shine indeed.

    Let's not forget on 15th Aug we celebrate just political independence as we became free of British rule that day. The other things mentioned in the above poem(?)are universal issues, plaguing every nation some way or other. Whilst under/malnourishment plague the third world, a Gandhian quote applies to the rest of the world :'The fact is the moment financial stability is assured, spiritual bankruptcy is

    In ‘The Hindu’ newspaper, A. Faizur Rahman writes:
    The Sangh Parivar must realise that by adhering to the Golwalkarian thought it is sowing the seeds of disharmony between Hindus and non-Hindus. It must understand that it would be unwise to continuously talk in terms of a Hindu Rashtra or a fantasised confrontation between Islam and Hinduism at a time when all our energies are required to be focused on equitable distribution of the fruits of our nation's economic growth. In other words, it is time Hindutva ideologues gave up their anti-Muslim agenda and went beyond the idea of conflict resolution into the realm of conflict transformation, by which both communities join hands to work towards the larger goal of making India an epitome of peace, stability and progress.

    Mosquitoes drink blood, poor have no water
    Selfish are cell fish which preserve the flesh within the cells
    No one is happy and comfortable, neither old nor young
    All are suffering from lack of eyesight and hearing problem
    Strong suffer diseases and weak are busy in trying to catch air in hands
    Frogs are happy in the pond and crabs are allowed to go out of the basket
    All Almighty God only can action without any comment or sound
