With 1,500 years of history, Shasthavu Bhootanatheshwara temple is among the most ancient places of worship. It is situated in the idyllic surroundings of Mijar village in Moodbidri inhabited mainly by the agriculturist community. The triple Shiva Lingam found on a single pedestal in the sanctum sanctorum is a unique feature of the temple. The temple has rich historical and mythological background.

The temple reflects a rare combination of ancient ethos and modern touch. Best materials are used for the temple construction to make it more appealing to the future generation. As a modern touch to the ancient temple the upper roof has been covered with world-class quality copper plates imported from Germany. Known as ‘Patina Copper, it is green in colour. Special quality pink marble from Udaipur has been used for flooring and the Pauli Gopuram has been covered with special Thailand tiles.  Patina Copper has been used in a temple for the first time in India, infact in whole of Asia.

The Reinstallation of Deity and Brahma Kalashabhisheka Mahotsava celebrations at Shasthavu Bhootanatheshwara temple were held in May,2010. The festivity was marked by a variety of religious and cultural programmes on all days. They were staged by the talented artistes and troupes of the district, the highlight being ‘Gurukiran Nite’ on May 16.Noted bollywood actor Sohail Khan was one among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Sri Vidyaprasanna Teertha Swamiji of Subramanya Mutt inaugurated the religious programme and Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Mutt blessed the occasion.


Vijayanath Vittal Shetty – The Man Behind the Success Story of Temple 

Taking up a particular and significant task is no big deal. But fulfilling the responsibility with sheer interest and vision is something to be appreciated. That’s exactly what the temple management committee head and chief co-ordinator of temple activities - Vijayanath Vittal Shetty has done so far. Right from the Reinstallation ceremony and formal inauguration of the renovated temple, Vijayanath has completely involved himself in the temple activities and has organized a series of prolific events in the name of temple which have in many ways contributed to the growth of Tulunadu culture and tradition.

Spectacular Bhootanatheshwara Kreedotsava

Present CM of Karnataka D V Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the Kreedotsava event which was an attempt to revive the traditional games and sports of Tulunadu region compriseing Udupi - Dakshina Kannada – Kasargod regions.  Though the event is organized by a temple, people of all castes, communities and religions were invited to participate in the true spirit of brotherhood, communal harmony and national integration.

Over 1,300 contestants participated in 21 games of the two-day Kreedotsava. The Kreedotsava concluded with a dance performance by the renowned actress and Bharata Natyam artiste Padmashri Shobana and her troupe.
 

Kabaddi Tournament

Inter State Kabaddi and Halli Kabaddi tournaments were conducted at the Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple, Badaga Yedapadav in the month of April. The games were conducted for both Men and Women. Prize Money for the interstate Kabaddi tournament was Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 25,000/- respectively. For the Halli Kabaddi tournament, the prize money was Rs. 50,000/-, Rs. 25000/-, Rs. 10,000/- and Rs. 5000/.
 

Halli Cricket Tournament

The morning-to-evening rubber-ball tournament with 99 knock out matches, took place on the abundant paddy fields adjacent to Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple at Badagayedapadavu near Mijar, which had been specially leveled to prepare three cricket pitches. Cricket being a gentleman’s game, the tournament saw the display of the best behavior and spirit of sportsmanship on the part of the players. The tournament was inaugurated by Padma Sri Syed Mujtaba Hussain Kirmani, the former wicket-keeper of team India.


After a series of successful events, it’s Now Time for Monsoon Marathon

After a successful ‘kreedotsava’, rural games, kabaddi, and cricket tournaments which gave Tulunadu games a much-needed boost, Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara temple will be organizing ‘Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Cross Country Monsoon Marathon’ on August 15 in celebration of the monsoon season amidst abundant rains and beautiful greenery.

The marathon include separate events for men and women in different categories like professional half marathon (all ages / 21 km), professionals half marathon (children below 16 years / 6 km), 'halli' marathon (children below 14 years/4 km; 14-16 years/6 km; 16-50 years/10 km), district-level halli marathon (16-50 years/10 km) and senior citizens marathon (50-60 years /10 km; above 60 years/6 km).

The marathon events will start at Sri Bhhothanatheshwara temple Badaga Yedapadavu, Mijar, Mangalore at 6.30 am. There will five prizes in all categories, the highest being Rs 50,000 for the winner of professionals half marathon. In all, cash prize worth over Rs 7 lac will be disbursed to the winners of the marathon.

The theme of the marathon will be unity, as people of all communities, caste and religions will take part. This would also be a star-studded event as sandalwood stars Pooja Gandhi, Neethu and Shivadwaj have already confirmed their presence at the inaugural function, and many more are expected by the organizers.


Entry will be free. Last day for registration is August 10.

    Hats off to Viju for all the good things he has done to the Temple & also to the people around.These village games will not only bring the families together & also the other communities to share their joy with others.I am sure the Marathon will be a big success & i pray there will be more participants this time.     Hello,
    Good photo's. congratulations Mr.Vijanath shetty for the work. seeing Mr.Kirmani and Sohail Khan felt the true secular color of this country.

    One doubt I had was how did we concluded the time period of the temple of 1,500 years. Do we have any Prof for that or by through shabhda pramana. ( if theProof is there. kindly publish, I am interested in Tulunadu history study)
