A Lineman's Journey from Mundkur to Germany

March 11, 2011

It has often been proved that destiny plays a crucial role in making one's dream come true. This is definitely true in the case of Rajesh Kulal of Mundkur in Dakshina Kannada district, for how else could one explain the phenomenal success of Rajesh in the field of bodybuilding, so distinct from ordinary lineman that he once was?

Years of hardwork have now placed him among the most prominent bodybuilders of the country. With several Maharashtra state-level and national-level championship titles under his belt, Rajesh Kulal, son of Poova Moolya and Lalita Moolya, is all set to fly to Germany to participate in the international bodybuilding championship to be held in November.

From an ordinary school boy to a national-level bodybuilder

A few years ago, Rajesh was an ordinary rural school boy, who studied in Kaje School, Government Higher Primary School, Mundkur and later at Vidyavardhaka Pre-university, before settling as a lineman at Sachiripet telephone centre. But his path took a diversion for good when he travelled to Mumbai in 2002.

With the support of his brother Ganesh, he enrolled himself in a gym in Mumbai. Soon, his hardwork coupled with self-confidence started yielding him fruits. He won 'Mumbai Ganesh Shree Title' in 2007. The same year he bagged 'Mumbai Udayashree Title' too. Since then, Rajesh has not looked back, bagging the 'YMCA' gold medal, 'Maharashtra Uday' gold medal, 'Maharashtra Hercules' gold medal and many other awards.

This obviously resulted in him being chosen for the national championship on December 25 last, where he emerged a bronze medalist, which in turn was a ticket to the international championship in Germany.

Surely, it is hard to come by people like Rajesh Kulal, who achieve the extraordinary despite ordinary beginnings.
