Diary-It's More than a Friend

Feb 19, 2010

Diary-writing is one of the finest ways to give vent to our feelings. We can analyze ourselves better by jotting down a few lines about ourselves on a daily basis.

I cultivated the habit of writing diary when I was 12-year old. Of late I realized that this habit actually plays a very important role and has become an integral part of my life.

The fast pace at which we lead our lives gives us very little time to mull over our actions and their consequences. By writing diary we can give some quality time for ourselves and explore our own thoughts.

It can be one of the tools to keep a check on our schedules and appointments. Every night we can note down our achievements for the day and how well we have utilized the time. We can also verify whether we have executed all our plans successfully. Various survey results show that people who write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them than those who don't. Diary keeps us well in track with our goals.

Even if we have many friends each one of us need our own space. It’s not possible to share every minute thing with friends or anyone. A diary can be more than a friend. We can freely express all our feelings in it without any hesitation. But one must make sure that the contents in the diary are kept confidential.

Robin Sharma in his book’ Who will cry when you die’ has quoted a medical research finding that says writing a diary for as little as fifteen minutes a day can improve health, functioning of our immune system and our overall attitude.

We can be very sincere when penning down our feelings in diary. At times we can argue with ourselves which will show us the right path. We can even ask ourselves whether we have maintained all our important relationships or performed all our tasks to the best of our ability. On the whole diary helps us framing our dreams and prioritizing our actions.

Parents should encourage the children to write diaries. Its makes the child disciplined, honest and also ambitious in life.

Diary can also be considered as a road to our past. We can go through the pages even after many years and know how we had shaped our life during those days. Reading about some of the memorable moments of past written in our own handwriting is a pleasure and is sure to bring a smile on our faces.

It sincerely reflects how much you love yourself. For a person like me where i do routine work day by day, it is not worth recording it.   So i better not write anything.

Agree with the idea of 'writing' a dairy in the computer. Convenient to record, easy to refer to, and saves a lot of paper. Needless to say, allows flexible editing.
