Sullia: 34-year-old removing algae, accidentally falls into pond, dies

Sullia, Apr 29: In a tragic incident that is reported from Palthady village under Bellare police station limits of the taluk, a man who went to remove the algae deposited in the pond of his farm, accidentally fell into it and died.

The deceased is identified as Gopalakrishna K (34), son of Monappa Naika and a resident of Kapatamoole of Palthady village.

Gopalakrishna, who told his family members that he is going to the pond in the farm land to remove the deposited algae, did not return home till dark. When the family members went near the pond, they found footwear of Gopalakrishna floating on the water in the pond. When they lowered a long wooden stick into the pond, Gopalakrishna’s shirt got stuck to it. Monappa, father of Gopalakrishna, immediately brought the body up with the help of two others and took the same to Puttur government hospital. The doctors over there declared him dead.

Gopalakrishna was working as an electrical maintenance technician at Adani Power Corporation in Padubidri. He was on his weekly off day on Thursday and had gone to remove the algae of the pond, when the mishap occurred.

Gopalakrishna’s wife is pregnant. He and his brother got married two years ago on the same day. His brother Deviprasad’s wife had delivered a baby on April 27. The happiness of the family was short-lived due to the sudden death of Gopalakrishna. Gopalkrishna’s mother died two years ago. He was active in social work.

Gopalakrishna is survived by father, brother and wife Harinakshi, a guest teacher at Chennavara school.
